Habitat Restoration
Noskovacka bara, Croatia
Noskovacka bara pilot site is located in the northeastern part of the Virovitica-podravina County in the Republic of Croatia. The site is characterized by its wetland ecosystem and is part of a broader network of natural habitats in the region NATURA 2000. The Noskovačka Bara area used to host various fish species, including migratory ones like barbus barbus, hucho hucho and rutilus pigus. However, poor water conditions and irregular freshwater inflow from the Drava River have led to low ecological quality.
The revitalisation project aims to restore the Old Drava meander, improving water flow, channel structure, and fish spawning conditions. By enhancing water quality and habitats, the project will support migratory fish, boost local biodiversity, and foster eco-tourism. It will also create a model for future restoration efforts in similar areas.
