Work Plan

Our work plan

SWIM’s work plan comprises seven work packages, delivering its objectives through strong collaboration between research, technology, and industry partners.

WP1 - Project Management, Quality and Ethics (UNIZG)
WP2
Baseline Assessment, Main Pressures and Their Impacts
(GEOS)
WP3
SWIM Platform for Migratory Fish
(CZU)
WP4
Restoring Connectivity of Key Habitats (Pilot Activities)
(DDNI)
WP5
Enhancing Habitat Protection for Migratory Fish Populations
(IAD)
WP6 – Stakeholder Engagement, Associated Regions and Results Multiplication
(AIH)
WP7 - Dissemination, Education and Exploitation (INOVA)

This work package ensures effective project management, including financial, administrative, and quality control, manages risks, and ensures data reliability. It coordinates a result-oriented scientific and technical plan and facilitates smooth communication among internal and external stakeholders. UNIZG leads this WP.

Meant to assess and monitor the health of migratory fish habitats and aquatic ecosystems, evaluating the impacts of anthropogenic changes to water conditions, invasive species, climate change, and human activities, while developing strategies for better management and adaptation. GEOS leads this WP.

This work package focuses on gathering requirements from pilot sites for services and applications, designing the SWIM platform's architecture and infrastructure, ensuring data compatibility, and integrating data for smooth platform operation. It also aims to optimise system performance, setting the stage for the platform’s long-term use and management after the project. CZU leads this WP.

The focus of this work package is to restore habitat connectivity through nature-based solutions at 7 pilot sites, including monitoring migratory fish populations, identifying key habitats, restoration actions, establishing conservation facilities for fish stocking, and promoting the socio-economic benefits of habitat protection and fish recovery. DDNI leads this WP.

This work package focuses on reviewing existing policy requirements for migratory fish habitats, integrating them with baseline assessments and recommendations, and proposing the establishment of strictly protected habitats in the Danube River Basin and the Northwest Black Sea to facilitate the recovery of fish stocks. IAD leads this WP.

The focus of this work package is on enhancing the engagement of stakeholders from both developed and less developed regions to foster the exploitation of SWIM results, enhancing protection of European migratory fish habitats through the SWIM alliance, and generating knowledge for future resilience actions post-SWIM. AIH leads this WP.

WP7 oversees the entire project with a tailored communication and dissemination strategy, engaging stakeholders and target audiences to effectively promote knowledge-sharing and ensure project visibility. INOVA+ leads this WP.
