SWIM Alliance

SWIM Alliance is a transnational community bringing together organisations and professionals working to protect migratory fish and restore river connectivity across the Danube River Basin and NW Black Sea region. It brings together stakeholders from fields such as biology, ecology, hydrology, and climate change to develop sustainable solutions for migratory fish conservation, while connecting experts with public authorities, regulators, and expert institutions to jointly develop and implement solutions for the protection of migratory fish and the sustainable management of freshwater ecosystems.

The value of the SWIM Alliance lies in its ability to connect technical solutions with regulatory frameworks and implementation processes, ensuring that results from pilot activities, monitoring, and field measures are translated into transferable guidelines and approaches that support stakeholders in applying innovative solutions across different regional contexts.

Built in close connection with the Danube Lighthouse Communities of Practice, it connects expertise from science, policy, and river management to help ensure SWIM results continue beyond the project lifetime.
