With a focus on improving habitat connectivity and ecosystem health, SWIMSustainable Water and Integrated Management of Fish Migration and their Habitats in the Danube River Basin and NW Black Sea – applies innovative, sustainable solutions that bring together governmental bodies, NGOs, researchers, and local communities.

By advancing ecological restoration, SWIM is paving the way for long-term biodiversity conservation and promoting the socio-economic well-being of local communities.

Habitat restoration

SWIM is improving aquatic ecosystem health by implementing 13 innovative activities across 7 pilot sites in the Danube.                                                    

Transnational collaboration

The project brings together a wide range of stakeholders, from local communities to governments, to co-design effective, sustainable solutions.

Nature-based solutions

SWIM uses technologies like fish passages, hatchery recovery, and digital platforms to enhance habitat quality and connectivity for migratory species.
