Fish Migration & River Continuity

Kylia Delta, Ukraine

Several migratory fish species in Ukraine are listed in the Red Book of protected species, and while their fishing is restricted, economic activities in the delta continue to threaten their habitats.

Identifying key habitats and designating them as strictly protected zones will reduce human impacts, supporting fish migration and reproduction. Additionally, establishing "no take zones" in marine areas will protect juvenile fish post-spawning. SWIM project will develop a comprehensive monitoring system to identify critical habitats along the Kylia arm and at the Black Sea outflow. By increasing protection for these habitats, the project aims to support species recovery and engage local communities in conservation efforts.
