Protecting Fish Migration and Habitats in the Danube-Black Sea Region

The SWIM project, Sustainable Water and Integrated Management of Fish Migration and their Habitats in the Danube River Basin and NW Black Sea, is a bold initiative aligned with the EU Mission Restore Our Ocean and Waters. Our goal is to protect and restore the habitats of migratory fish species in the Danube River Basin and the Northwestern Black Sea region.

Our approach

A core part of SWIM's strategy is transnational cooperation. We’re bringing together diverse stakeholders, including governmental representatives, NGOs, researchers, and local communities, to design joint solutions through the SWIM Alliance.

SWIM project

Why it matters

By restoring these critical habitats, we aim to enhance the health of aquatic ecosystems across Europe. SWIM’s holistic approach is designed to serve as a model for future environmental restoration projects, making a lasting impact on both local ecosystems and the people who rely on them.
